Sex Addiction Treatment Center
Most men think about sex frequently, but for men with sexual addictions, sex consumes every minute of the day and all aspects of their lives. Sex addiction treatment at Boulder Recovery can help free men from their compulsive behaviors, so they can live fulfilling lives.
Most people with substance addictions find it extremely difficult to quit without professional help. Sex can be as addictive as drugs or alcohol. Boulder Recovery’s sex addiction treatment program combines the latest scientific research on addiction with a faith-based approach to deliver effective and personalized treatment for Christians with sex addictions.
Our programs help you reconnect with your authentic self so you can enjoy healthy and intimate relationships with God and your spouse.

TINSA Trauma-Induced Sexual Addiction Model
Our Sex Addiction Treatment program utilizes the innovative TINSA® (Trauma-Induced Sexual Addiction) model. Boulder Recovery founder Dr. Michael Barta, CSAT-S, developed the neurobiological approach to guide therapists in understanding and treating sexual addictions.
Through his research and clinical practice, Dr. Barta found that unresolved trauma often led to sexual addictions and intimacy disorders in men.
Traumatic childhood experiences that could lead to sex addiction include:
- Loss of a parent
- Child of divorce
- Emotional neglect
- Physical or sexual abuse
When men experience childhood trauma and their attachment to a parental figure is disrupted, they grow up with an emotional wound. This attachment wound can cause the man to lack a sense of self and have difficulty experiencing and providing emotional intimacy. Men often turn to sex as a coping mechanism to address the emotional scars from childhood trauma.
When you have sex, your brain releases dopamine. This feel-good neurochemical causes you to experience pleasure and enjoyment. Men with sex addictions participate in increasingly frequent and compulsive sexual acts for a dopamine hit and to mask the pain from their attachment wounds.
Boulder Recovery’s team of certified sex addiction therapists use the TINSA model to help men repair wounds caused by childhood trauma. Our therapists work with each person in the program to help them become whole and return to or discover an authentic relationship with God and themselves.
Boulder Recovery includes partner support as a part of our sex addiction treatment program. As the only Christian program in North America to include support for spouses, we recognize the tremendous emotional toll addictions take on partners. The wives of the men in our intensives receive 10 hours of support in a virtual and confidential setting. The spouse support group meets via Zoom with a certified betrayal trauma counselor.
