Intimacy Disorder Treatment Center Helps Men Restore Authentic Relationships
Men often find developing and maintaining intimacy challenging. If you compulsively engage in destructive behaviors to avoid intimacy, help is available at our intimacy disorder treatment center.
At Boulder Recovery, we specialize in treating Christian men’s intimacy disorders, including attachment wounding, sexual addiction, and pornography addiction. As a part of our 14-Day Intensive, our team of certified sexual addiction therapists focuses on treating the root cause of intimacy disorders, such as unresolved trauma.
The goal of our intimacy disorder treatment center is to help men build healthy and lasting levels of intimacy, community, and relationships.
How Boulder Recovery Treats Intimacy Disorders
God designed humans to experience intimacy. Physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual intimacy are foundational elements of a marriage.
But unresolved trauma often gets in the way of experiencing intimacy as God intended it.
Childhood experiences that could lead to intimacy disorders include:
- Emotional neglect
- Loss of a parent
- Child of divorce
- Physical or sexual abuse
Men learn about relationships and intimacy as young children. When attachment to a parental figure gets disrupted, the child grows up insecure. They lack a sense of self and don’t understand how to relate to other people. As an adult, the insecurity and memories of the traumatic event cause the man to avoid intimacy. They fear getting hurt again.
Intimacy disorders can cause such intense fear that people actively sabotage their relationships or push others away.
Our intimacy disorder treatment center helps men process and resolve childhood trauma so that they can enjoy all types of intimate relationships.
TINSA Trauma-Induced Sexual Addiction Model
Our therapists use the TINSA® (Trauma Induced Sexual Addiction) model, a neurobiological approach to understanding and healing sexual addiction, created by Boulder Recovery founder Dr. Michael Barta, CSAT-S.
Dr. Barta identified unresolved trauma as the driving force behind intimacy disorders and sexual addictions in men.
The unique application of the TINSA model helps men repair fractures caused by childhood hardships. We hope men can become whole and return to, or discover, an authentic relationship with God and themselves.
14-Day Men’s Intensive
Our therapist designed the 14-Day Men’s Intensive to help men heal traumatic experiences and attachment wounds. The short time frame minimizes disruptions to men’s professional and personal lives.
The live-in program is limited to 12 men at our Boulder, Colorado, location. We provide accommodations and meals as a part of the program.
Men receive personalized treatment using various therapy techniques. They also bond as a group while enjoying the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
Goals of the men’s intensive
- Stop destructive sexual behaviors
- Locate and heal the root cause of the intimacy disorders and sexual addictions
- Create a solid foundation for lasting recovery and real intimacy in relationships

The program also includes a partner support group. Spouses meet as a group on Zoom with a certified betrayal trauma counselor.
